Job Description - SCCM Architect


A global professional services organization is actively seeking an experienced SCCM Architect to join their Atlanta team.  The SCCM Architect will serve as the top SCCM technical expert in the personal computer management space within the organization and will have primary ownership of the company’s Configuration Manager environment. You will be a key technical leader in architecting, designing, and implementing the systems required to manage the Microsoft Windows Operating System. This space includes Microsoft Configuration Manager, 1E Nomad, Intune, Active Directory, Group Policy, and others as needed. As the SCCM Architect you will form partnerships with Security, Local IT, the PC Management Service Owner, the Windows OS Architect, and the rest of the Intelligent Computing Experience team to deliver PC management services to the company worldwide. This role will report to the IT Manager responsible for endpoint device management.


Set/drive technical architecture for and be the final escalation point for Microsoft Configuration Manager, including server specs, location and configuration as well as backup and recovery processes

Own quality, cost, and performance / availability metrics of PC management services; report on an ongoing basis on these metrics and build actions into the road map to improve the service

Create and maintain concise architectural and technical documentation including design artifacts, knowledge base articles, and operating procedures

Provide 3rd level support for SCCM and related infrastructure

Develop strategy of system and design the infrastructure necessary to support that strategy

Identify and propose product upgrades, conduct system performance and capacity management studies, collaborate with vendor SMEs on issues impacting operations, and make sound recommendations to re-mediate issues and optimize the service

Leverage deep experience and provide architectural expertise to managers, project teams and technical staff

Educate and train other IT team members on basic and advanced SCCM features and best practices

Performing other duties as assigned or required


B.A./B.S. degree in Computer Science or related Engineering field

8+ years of relevant experience in designing and managing large enterprise SCCM environments

Deep understanding of Microsoft Configuration Manager, including component configuration and troubleshooting, Package and Application deployments, Configuration Baselines, role-based security model, client settings, user interaction options, and system dependencies

Deep knowledge of Active Directory, GPO, Windows 10 and Windows Server 2012/2016 architecture and security

Knowledge of SQL as it pertains to the design of the SCCM database and reporting services (SSRS)

Experience with PKI certificates and integration with SCCM for managing clients over the internet

Scripting experience using PowerShell or equivalent tools, along with an understanding of Microsoft API’s and tool integration

Fundamental understanding of network concepts including IP addressing, DNS, DHCP, etc.

Knowledge of Cloud infrastructure such as Azure and AWS

ITSM knowledge and experience
