Job Description - Controller, Financial Reporting

 The Controller position is an integral part of the Accounting/Finance team and will enhance and improve the Company's accounting and finance functions. This position provides senior leadership and is responsible for managing the accounting team and will be responsible for the integrity of the financial controls of the Company. The Controller will maintain an adequate system of accounting records and ensure a comprehensive set of controls is in place to mitigate risk and enhance the accuracy of the company's reported financial results.

Job Description/Essential Functions:

  • Oversee the preparation of Quarterly and Annual Statements and manage the internal review for these documents
  • Monitor and ensure timely identification and compliance with evolving accounting guidance and interpretations
  • Prepare technical memorandums that document issues in a clear, logical and comprehensive manner
  • Communicate and explain relevant accounting treatments and evolving accounting guidance to the management team
  • Coordinate with the actuarial department to ensure that loss reserves are completely and accurately recorded as part of the monthly close process
  • Manage communications with external auditors regarding audited financial statements and accounting issues to ensure auditor agreement with company decisions on accounting policies and disclosures
  • Research and prepare responses to regulator inquiries and ensure all periodic regulatory filings are completed on time.
  • Design, implement and maintain comprehensive accounting policy documents to improve clarity and consistency
  • Implement and maintain reporting procedures to comply with internal control requirements
  • Prepare and review monthly and quarterly internal financial statements and other management analyses as requested

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in accounting
  • Minimum of 10 years of property and casualty accounting experience with progressively increasing supervisory responsibilities
