Job Description - Director of Philanthropic Initiatives



The full-time position will be responsible for planning, implementing and supervising fundraising, major gifts and alumni programs designed to provide significant income to the organization.  



Organize and implement a fundraising strategy, but not limited to the following:


  • Identify, cultivate and solicit major gifts for the organization
  • Manage and steward relationships for current donors and prospects
  • Identify and manage a targeted portfolio database of corporate partners and friends with the aim of the soliciting annual fund and major gifts
  • Develop strategies and plans for solicitations of prospective donors.
  • Oversees constituency and Alumni programming; education and outreach particularly through collaboration with the constituent colleges to promote increased alumni and donor engagement through various affinity groups and industries
  • Consult and advise on all fundraising activities. Provide the information necessary to set fundraising goals in conjunction with the Organization's needs.
  • As instructed, oversee and execute high yield advancement events, assist with the coordination of the Gala and Golf Outing
  • Develop and implement a social marketing strategy including web site, e-philanthropy, and direct mail in conjunction with the Marketing Department
  • Develop marketing materials, brochures and proposals in conjunction with the Marketing Department
  • Conduct prospect and donor research where applicable
  • Provide volunteers with plans, information and support services needed to be an effective fundraiser.
  • Implements the Graduway platform, will be the liaison between Graduway and the school easing its implementation into the alumni program
  • Other duties as necessary




Education, Preparation, and Training

  • Bachelor's Degree required, Master's degree preferred
  • Minimum of 5-10 years' experience in fundraising, major gifts, and alumni affairs
  • Candidate must be creative and committed to the College's mission
  • Attention to detail and ability to work under deadlines; strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Openness to evolving responsibilities 


  • Exceptional language skills, both oral and written
  • Ability to handle multiple high priority activities simultaneously
  • A high degree of interpersonal competency: the ability to work well with a diverse group of donors, volunteers, staff, consultants, board members, and vendors
  • Excellent diplomacy and teambuilding skills required to work well with colleagues at all levels
  • Proficient use of MS Office Suite and database are required
  • Education and relevant experience in fundraising and public relations. This institution is committed to providing continuing education experiences for the employee's growth
  • Experience utilizing new and existing online mediums to inform and actively engage sizable audiences and constituencies
  • Ability to present in a convincing and professional manner and to inspire and generate enthusiasm among donors, volunteers and staff


Physical Demands

  • Extensive time sitting and standing 

Computer Skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Internet research and Outlook
  • Donor Data Base Management Software knowledge (Raiser's Edge) 


  • Local and infrequent travel
  • Some evenings and weekend hours necessary
