Job Description - Docketing Clerk

A prestigious Law Firm is seeking a Docketing Clerk ( "Clerk”), based in the New York office, to manage the filing process for all court and administrative documents. The Clerk will work closely with the Managing Attorney to ensure that deadlines are calendared and will assist with ad hoc projects to ensure efficiency in the Managing Attorney's absence.



Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Perform the service and filing of all court and administrative agency documents prepared by the Firm, including electronic filings and commencement of cases
  • Coordinate with outside attorney service organizations to respond to various requests (e.g. service of process, document retrieval)
  • Conduct research for and retrieval of court and administrative agency documents
  • Research for and locate sample court documents to be used by our attorneys as they prepare their papers
  • Complete docket and calendar-related diary entries using CompuLaw for all court and administrative agency documents served and filed, or received by the Firm
  • Assist with the docketing and calendaring of the daily ECF, NYSCEF and other case-related notices received by the Firm
  • Assist with the submission of emergency orders to show cause in the City, State, and Federal courts
  • Perform electronic filings of state and federal court and agency documents
  • Utilize on-line computer-based research applications such as Courtlink, CourtAlert, and PACER
  • Have working knowledge of NY state and federal court rules and procedures, and ability to advise the attorneys when appropriate
  • Review court documents prior to filing and explain why a change or edit is necessary
  • Speak to court clerks regarding procedural questions and then convey relevant information to our attorneys
  • Perform daily follow-up with attorneys from whom one's daily assignments were received
  • Prepare and edit affidavits of service when necessary
  • Assist with preparing responses to requests for audit inquiry information in the absence of the Managing Attorney

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree is required; relevant experience at a law firm
  • Working knowledge of local state and federal court rules, including the CPLR, FRCP, and FRAP
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment that will utilize their prioritizing and multitasking skills
  • Proficient with New York State Courts E-Filing (NYSCEF), federal court CM/ECF and CompuLaw calendaring system
  • Knowledge of CourtLink, CourtAlert, and PACER; PacerPro a plus
  • Ability to work overtime as needed
