Job Description - Data Center Technician

Help Desk Technician (Network Support)



Location: Piscataway, NJ

2nd Shift: 4PM-12:30AM



The Data Center/Help Desk Technician operates and supports the company’s computer systems and related peripheral equipment, including the host computers that run the company’s applications within the Data Center. In addition, they would also manage the other operational tools, software and computer devices. Some areas of responsibility would include the Network Operations Center, Data Center Operations and Network Support. This position requires the ability to analyze and resolve hardware/software problems.



Typical Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and troubleshoot carrier circuits and applications, which include interaction with carriers and clients
  • Troubleshooting carrier circuits
  • Monitor all computer equipment within the Data Center
  • Set up and removal of equipment, such as servers, routers and switches
  • Installing and building Ethernet cabling, run fiber cables and other various network devices and equipment

Minimum Qualifications:

  • This is an entry level position and receives complete and individualized hands-on training.  We take the time to develop and train the individual to handle any task assigned either as a group or individual contributor. 
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Strong communication skills including email and phone etiquette are essential to be successful in this role. 
  • Ability in taking written notes and documenting actions taken to resolve tasks. 
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision yet having the aptitude to know when to seek additional resources/escalation along with skillful time management. 
  • Excellent attendance a must.
  • This will include working weekends and holidays when needed. 
  • Ability to handle emergency situations and proactively resolve any issues.
  • This position is for the 2rd shift (4:00pm-12:30am). 
  • Training will be provided to cover all aspects of the shift and training hours will rotate to include all shifts. 
  • There is opportunity to move to different shifts as opportunities open up on the different shifts or as business decision deems appropriate.
  • You must be in able to lift heavy servers, IE 50 lbs and up, able to climb ladders and work from heights (9 feet) running cables overhead.
